Dream Sports Center Travel Team Philosophy
To all travel players, coaches and parents:
There will be some changes for next years travel season. These changes have been made to try to make the season enjoyable for all involved. I will spell out the changes below so that there are no questions as to what is going on. Just like the kids are getting better at hockey year after year we are learning each year how to improve the travel hockey experience. First there will be a $100.00 fee for trying out for travel hockey. This $100.00 will be put towards your $250.00 fee for the travel hockey season if you make a team. If you make a C team and decide not to play your $100.00 will be refunded. If you make an A or B team and you choose not to play you will forfeit your $100.00 deposit towards the travel season. We are doing this to be fair to all the kids that are trying out. Last year we had kids still undecided a week after they got their phone call based on who was on what team. We will not do this again this year because it is not fair to the rest of the kids. Second we have made the decision talking to coaches and parents that it is best if we go with 1 goalie and 8 skaters for each team selected. We will leave open the possibility of having two goalies on certain teams. All the kids selected will get more playing time and this should help raise their skill level. Third the Dream Sports Center will not allow privately formed teams to play under the Dream Sports Center name. We will not waiver on this issue. If privately formed teams want to practice at our facility the cost will be $100.00 per hour. The players that tryout in August will comprise the teams that represent the Dream Sports Center during the travel hockey season. This year we will be better help in supporting our Volunteer coaches in disciplinary problems. Children and or parents that can not get along will be talked to from the beginning to help try to put the fun back in the program. If we can’t keep it fun we will ask anybody, from the star player down to go elsewhere. This is a program that is very important to us for the development of our children not only as hockey players but also as people. Our philosophy remains the same as years past. We have travel hockey to help the kids that want to get better and want to play at a higher level. We also feel it is important to help the kids be good people. We will not have a win at all cost mentality. We strive to do our best and then feel that it should be easy to live with the outcome. Those that feel this way we would love to have you join us next year for travel hockey. Those that feel we are not a good fit for you maybe should look elsewhere for your travel hockey needs.
